Airport Information

The San Francisco Bay Area is served by three major international airports: San Francisco (SFO), San Jose (SJC), and Oakland (OAK). Most major airlines fly into SFO and as the area's primary airport, is also its busiest. SJC is closer to Stanford and easier to negotiate than SFO. We do not recommend that you fly into to OAK, as it located across the Bay from Stanford at least a 50-minute drive away.

Airport Transportation

All major car rental companies rent cars from the three airports. Call rental agencies for rates. Van services are less expensive alternatives to taxis.

Van Services
Here are just two van services. There are several other operators available in the airport shuttle areas of SFO and SJC airports. Reservations are not required but recommended for transport from the airport to the Stanford area. However, reservations are required for return to the airport.

South & East Bay Airport Shuttle (SFO and SCJ)
800.548.4664 or 408.559.9477
About $25.00 ($9.00/additional person) one-way to the Stanford area from SFO, and $29.00 ($7.00/additional person) one-way to the Stanford area from SJC. Pick-up is outside baggage claim.

Super Shuttle (SFO only)
415.558.8500 or 650.558.8500
About $26.00 ($8.00/additional person) one-way. Pick-up is upstairs on departure level at marked locations. Runs 24-hours a day. Reservation required only on return trip to the airport.

Taxi Service
You do not need a reservation for taxi service; taxis are abundant at the arrival area of the airport. If you would like to reserve a cab in advance, you may call Yellow Cab at 650.321.1234. Fares with cab companies can run from $45 to $70 from SFO and SJC to the Stanford area; ask the driver up front how much it will cost. To return to the airport, you must make a reservation at least a couple of hours in advance of your departure.

All prices and schedules are subject to change without notice.

Campus Parking

We suggest that you park in the metered spots around the Oval, which is at the end of Palm Drive (see directions above). Drop a coin into your meter and you come up to Wallenberg Hall to pick up your one-day parking pass from Adelaide Dawes. As you enter the building, take the staircase at your left up the second floor. Adelaide's office is to your left at the top of the stairs. The parking pass will save you from having to feed the meter all day.
