Ice Breaker Exercise
Participants pair off. Each pair spends five minutes getting to know each
other. Each member introduces the other member of the pair to the group
as a whole. |

Group Exercise: Develop
a SENS Development Roadmap
The goal of this exercise is for the group to jointly develop a matrix
of key variables that might provide the foundation for a five-year development
roadmap whose goal is to clarify the "Making SENS" vision. |

|
12:00 - 1:00pm |
Working Lunch
The group can continue working on fleshing out the matrix during lunch
if necessary. Box lunches will be provided. |

Break-out Groups: Future
Scenario Development
After lunch, the group will divide into three working groups of roughly
equal number of participants. Each group will be responsible for developing
a reasonably detailed TARGET scenarioa user-centered vision of what
new learning experiences would be enabled if, five years from now, a Science
Education Network of Sensors actually existed. One possibility is for the
scenarios to be driven by the curriculum. Each group would develop a scenario
(a kind of day-in-the-life storyboard, with participants, activities, sketches)
showing how SENS would work in Mathematics and in science domains ranging
from middle school General Science to Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Environmental
Science/Geoscience respectively. |
